Welcome to Western Kern County
Amateur Radio Emergency Service ARES®

We are pleased that you took the time to visit our web site.
ARES® is part of the ARRL. - ARES® has no dues.
You do NOT have to belong to a club or the ARRL.
A valid FCC license and a desire to train and volunteer is all you need.

We are thankful that the Amateur Radio clubs support our efforts by allowing use of club repeaters, meeting areas, and helping out with our activities. The Kern County Central Valley Amateur Radio Club (W6LIE.ORG) provides this site in support of ARES®.
In 2010 we undertook a collaborative effort to engage all the Amateur Radio and faith based organizations in Kern County that were each participating in emergency communications in some way.
Keep in mind that Kern is a large county with over 8,000 square miles and several mountain ranges. Bottom line is that we were successful in that effort and a robust ARES® group has evolved.
We could not have done it without the hard work done by other ARES® organizations around the United States. We received a lot of help and material that enabled us to get up and running quickly.
If you are an FCC licensed Amateur Radio operator in Kern County California, and interested in joining Western Kern County ARES®, you will find a PDF version of the ARRL FSD 98 Application for Membership on this site under the “Join WKC Ares” heading. Please fill it out, print and sign the form.
Return the form to contact@wkcares.org.

Sincerely,
WKC ARES
